Vocabulary covered: name age numbers to 100 personal qualities and faults alphabet first and third person singular of avoir and être hair/eyes comment dit-on / qu’est-ce que c’est / anglais/français/il, elle est comment/et/mais/pour avancer/conte/décris/quelles sont/ Should help with speaking. Perhaps put help on the whiteboard (e.g. comment dit-on if the learners are not familiar with it). I’ve put a PPT version here as well so you could play it as a class with it on the IWB.

A two page French “test” for reading and writing. Good for Y7 once covered name, age, pets, hair, eyes, j’habite, opinions or as a low ability test for Y8 for recapping/consolidation. Mainly gapfill and matching but does have an open writing on the second page.

End of year review: Spanish. A simple pro forma with a summary of what has been studied this academic year with spaces to note improvements from teacher and student. A “looking to the future” section to fill in also. Print on double-sided, landscape A4.

Spanish All About Me Basic personal information A mini book to write about yourself. Fold the A4 or A3 sheet over to make the booklet. Page numbers are given. Answer the questions and illustrate. Vocabulary covered: name age siblings where you live Could make a good revision starter, consolidation of writing or home work.

Salle de classe: objets. A pack of starter activities to develop knowledge of classroom objects in French. Fill in the missing letters. Three different sets of vocabulary ending with a grid covering all three to fill in.

Sala de clase: objetos. Simple starters to build classroom object vocabulary in Spanish. Instructions in the notes pages. Simple gap-filling to develop gradually the correct spelling of classroom items in Spanish.

Helpful for Viva AQA GCSE. A sheet to print to help with the vocabulary for global problems (pollution/obesity/famine etc). The resource helps the Piensa Globalmente topic by providing a matching tick or cross grid of vocabulary in English and Spanish and an extension activity to choose whether we should or should not do something. Print two slides to get two copies per A4 sheet.

Word search on Spanish words around Christmas. Also translate them into English.

A few sheets put together for Year 7s to learn Spanish vocabulary about Christmas. Matching/wordsearch/puzzle. Should last at least a whole lesson. They can always make their own puzzles or Christmas cards when they’ve done all these. Lots of colouring, too ;)

Year 7 Spanish First Spanish Lesson Get to know your KS3 pupils. Do your pupils come from a variety of feeder primaries? This resource can help you to clarify level of MFL depending on which primary your intake is from. This is also a helpful resource if the timetable hasn’t started yet or your sets/groups are not sorted in the third week of term which happened to me one year and I had to cobble to something together for two weeks not knowing if the children would be in the group or not… There is room to put in the name of your school. For differentiation ideas, try putting anagrams of Spanish vocab’ on the board (or on certain tables if you know the ability…) or anagrams of famous Spanish speakers.
